be asked,
"Is a lightbulb heavier
when lit?"
But pondering that question
might remind us
that we are more
when there's a glow
within us
shining out.

A great white shark.
An ocean swollen by an overpowering tide.
A neglected child in a crisis neighborhood, armed with high-powered anger.
A speeding car going wayward.
A bomb.
Nothing comes from worrying over or hoping against these things that destroy.
No matter how carefully our fragile lives are ordered or governed, the direction or flow of destruction cannot be determined or managed.
Sometimes the most we can do in a firestorm is pray for rain.
My ego's often
Too large
For the rest of me.
So to get about,
To get along,
To get by,
Maybe
I'm better off
Without it.
